A chalazion is a clogged oil gland of the eyelid. These are quite common and have many predisposing risk factors: poor eyelid hygiene, eyelid infections, hormonal changes, ocular rosacea, chronic immune deficiency, chronic bacterial buildup or inflammation of the eyelids (blepharitis), and others.
